About Taaibosch

This estate’s exceptional terroir offers optimal conditions for the Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties to flourish.

Here, a traditional vinification approach is used, established
by our talented associate and manager Schalk Willem Joubert
who meticulously plans the elaboration of the wines using a
minimalistic approach.
Minimalistic intervention is a vision we have embraced for the
wines of Taaibosch. To achieve this, we have implemented the
most rigorous organic principles to both our viticultural and
oenological practices.

THE WINEMAKER

Schalk Joubert- Cellar Master and CEO

Schalk was born and raised in the rural Karoo town of Barrydale, where his family have been farmers for
four generations. It is here that Schalk developed a passion for winemaking at a young age.
After completing his degree in Industrial Psychology, Schalk entered the wine industry and worked as an
apprentice in California and for several prestigious wineries in South Africa, before accepting the role as
winemaker of Rupert and Rothchild in 1997. In 2010 he was appointed as CEO of Rupert & Rothschild
and he led this French – South African partnership until 2017. It was in 2018 that Schalk joined ODDO
Vins et Domaines to oversee their acquisitions in the South African wine industry and to develop their
operations.
